Tips for creating the perfect wedding hair
Tips for creating the perfect wedding hair.

Choosing the right wedding hair for your perfect day can be a stressful time. You can spend hours scrolling through internet sites, flicking page after page of wedding magazines and still be unsure what to go for, with so many different styles around from the soft romantic of half up half with soft tumbles of curls, the high glamour and chicness look with the curls pilled up to the simple but classic styles such as the low bun, what do you do?

The are different factors that should be considered when choosing your wedding day style. The most important of them all is your face shape. There are suitable styles for all face shapes so don’t despair if you dont have that perfect oval face shape. For instance, if you have a long face shape, it’s best to avoid too much height as it will enhance this. So instead, maybe go for a more flattering shape with more width.

You should also consider your hair type before you choose a style. Is it thick enough to achieve that? Is it long enough or would you have to opt for extensions? What is the texture like? if its curly will it stay straight, frizz free and smooth in humidity, or a windy day? If its poker-straight, will it hold a curl for the whole day?

We have to work with what we are given and so sometimes it is best to go with it in order for it to look great, no matter what weather conditions you may encounter when it comes to your big
day.

It’s also advised to avoid a complicated hair style if your dress has a lot of detail or glitter as the main focus should always stay with your dress. A good hairstyle should always compliment your dress and not compete with it.

Veils, tiaras, flowers and other accessories

If you are wearing a veil, make sure the style your are choosing is sturdy enough to hold a veil. As a general rule, if you are wearing your hair down or part down your hair should not be longer than your veil. If your hair is very fine and the comb on your veil is very wide toothed then ask the shop where you bought it if it is possible to change the comb to a finer toothed to avoid the veil from slipping.

Tiaras come in all different shapes and sizes. When choosing your tiara remember to check that it fits your head shape. It is very hard to work with a tiara that is too big for your head size and so it can often effect the style. The higher the tiara the nicer it is to have height to give it a background to let it stand out and make the most of it.

If a tiara is not for you, flowers are often a very nice substitute, especially for those country weddings or if you are getting married abroad. Florists if you ask will very oftern put them on a pin so they can slide in your hair. flowers such as roses work great with a bit of gypsyfilina next to them. If real flowers are not for you then you can get lovely silk alternatives on slides or clips. If you are considering flowers as an addition, then it is best to chat to your stylist first so they can give you advice on the right size and shape to get, in order to make the most out of your style.

There are plenty of other accessories on the market for your hair from pearls to match your necklace to diamantes to match your tiara or veil. These are great for breaking up curls or just to give you that extra sparkle. When buying these always buy them on a pin where possible and try to avoid the twist in types, these can often be hard to remove and can be almost impossible to hide the wires.

A top tip is don’t be afraid to search around dress making shops for pearls that can be threaded trough a fine pin, very small flowers, feathers or sparkles, these can be treasure troves for saving money and for finding something individual.

Choosing your hairdresser

Finding the right hairdresser can be hard work, looking for the right one via recommendations or at wedding fairs.

Look for one with the right experiance for the style you have in mind, ask to look at previous work if you ever have any concerns. The right hairdresser will have time for you and any worries you may have. Take advice they may give you and give any suggested styles a go at your trials, as they are the best peole to know what will or won’t work when it comes to your hair.

Also, make sure you book your hair appointment well in advance to avoid any disappointments. Try and time your hair trial on the same day as your dress fitting, this allows you to ensure the hairstyle works with your dress. When attending your hair trial it is best to take along any veils, tiaras or pictures you might have to make the most out of the time. Also it is advised to take a friend for their advice, as it will really help you decide on what to go for. I would advise to also take a photo of the style when it is complete, this allows you to look back over what was done, also it is a good refresher for your hairdresser on the day.

As time passes after your trial, you may not be sure about the style or may see something different, so please don’t be scared to book another hair trial and try something different.
